Riddle me this – what do you do when your epic, 3-day engagement session starts off with foul weather when you are supposed to be on a sailboat? I’ll tell you the answer! You stay home and have the cutest, rainy day at home engagement photos ever.
Obviously it’s never a good idea to get out on the water when the weather is choppy, but Zoey and I had this 3-day event planned for weeks with Gabriella! There was no way we were going to start this thing on a bad note.
Luckily, the two of them thought the same. This is where we began with day one.
Day 1: An At Home Engagement Session
When Zoey and I showed up at the apartment, Gabriella and Andrew were waiting for us looking all classy-comfy. Andrew had his black sweater on and Gabriella was rocking it in her Chris Stapleton graphic tee and blue jeans.
(Side note – graphic tees can totally be a vibe for an engagement session! Just because we’re millennials, it doesn’t mean we have to always be in our sad beige colors!)
To be honest, while I love a sailboat session, destiny was calling for this engagement session at home.
Their apartment had the perfect lighting and setup for this session.
We started in their living room and you can tell the couch is their natural hangout spot. We always want the couples we work with to feel at home, and in this case, they literally were at home. There was no “getting comfortable” because they were already there!
You know what made this thing ridiculously awesome? The little furry friend they involved in the photos. Seriously, she was all about it and got in on the loving action.
After spending some time indoors, it was time to take this engagement photography session outside into the rain.
Rainy Day Home Engagement Photography
Before stepping outside, Gabriella and Andrew had a quick wardrobe change so they could go slightly more classy for the next part of this rainy photoshoot.
By the time we stepped outside, the rain had died down considerably. Our camera thanked us, but when we’re talking about a rainy day aesthetic, it calls for being wet!
That’s where a little bit of indoor plumbing comes into action. So, with determination in mind, a playful spirit and a heart to make this thing happen the right way, I filled up a bowl of water and threw it on them. They never saw it coming…
I KID! It was 100% with consent! We like to make fun experiences, not surprises that end up with couples being unnecessarily wet.

To Be Continued
You think this was awesome? Yeah, this was just the first day of an amazing 3-day engagement session.
Zoey and I are Dallas wedding photographers who do things differently. While everyone and their brother is out doing a one-hour engagement session, we’re over here making experiences that turn into memories.
