I saw this hilarious yet super weird sketch on SNL the other day and it got the word “release” a bit stuck in my head. Check it out and I am sure you will see why.

As people we have a tendency to clutch on to things. Beliefs, Ideas, Expectations. We put so much pressure on ourselves and the things in our lives to be a certain way. We have to be a parent who cooks a homecooked meal for our family every night. We have to be a business owner whose business is the only thing that sustains us. We have to have a wedding that is without flaw.

But what if we didn’t. What if we didn’t clutch. What if we, dare I say it, released. What if we allowed ourselves to just be present, moving, and ready to enjoy the flaws that come with humanity.

Be the parent that had to pick up take out and enjoy the smile your kid has as they open up the cheap plastic toy next to there french fries. Be the business owner with the side hustle because it makes your life better (I work part time making coffee because it provided my family with great health insurance). Have a wedding where you allow yourself to feel every emotion that is present, soaking in the complexities of family dynamic and large events.

These things don’t make the experience less or worse. They make them human. They make them living and that’s where the magic is.
