hey there

There has probably never been a love triangle quite like the love Hope had for her four peanut butter jelly sandwiches and for her groom, Nathan…

Not even Bella, Edward, and Jacob can come close to this.

I’m jumping the gun here though! This cold, winter Texas wedding at the Firefly Gardens wedding venue was filled with chills, hiding in storage closets, and so many baked goods!

It should go without saying, this wedding (like all the weddings Zoey and I get to work), was awesome.

About Firefly Gardens in Midlothian, TX

Firefly Gardens is one of several wedding venues in Midlothian, TX. This one does stand out and feels like a Dallas wedding venue with it’s all white structure and 8 acres of secluded land.

It’s only 30 minutes south of DFW and offers a few things most couples get pretty excited about.

We’re talking Crystal chandeliers, open vendor policies, big white rustic barns, access to the house on property for couples and their parties to stay, and so much!

Really, you should have a look at their full list of amenities.

When it comes to searching for a venue, Zoey and I appreciate that the Firefly Gardens pricing is transparent and requires only a 25% down payment to book your date!

You know how we mentioned the big white rustic barns? Yeah, this means there is plenty of room to accommodate up to 250 guests (party time!) with plenty of room to move around.

Two is a crowd, three is a party, and 250 is guest count for a celebration at this awesome Midlothian wedding venue.

Hope and Nathan’s Firefly Gardens Wedding

We’re in Texas, so we know a thing or two about arctic freezes. At the same time, we’re used to going through all four seasons plus all the existing weather in a span of 2 minutes.

Go back with me to February 16, 2024.

We’re in Dallas and the high was 64 degrees with a low of 61. You can’t ask for a better day!

And then there is February 17 – Hope and Nathan’s wedding day – and the high is only 40.

No one was acclimated to this cold.

Now add in some windy weather, and you suddenly have groomsmen walking around acting like everything is fine. In reality, they’re totally crying inside as they internally curse the cold.

This is where Zoey and I become increasingly thankful for Nathan and Hope, because they are so easy to work with.

While many people would want to stay hidden in the groom’s suite or other buildings, they were ready to tough it out and do their portraits right.

Still, everyone was on their mind. To help all of the guests stay warm, they made sure everyone had hand warmers. Us included, because you cannot press the button on a camera if your fingers can’t move!

As we were getting ready for Nathan and Hope’s couple portraits, we needed to escape the cold. Thank goodness there was a nice little storage closet we were able to squeeze into.

Magic happens in the most random places too.

In that little storage closet, Nathan and Hope clung to each other and found warmth in one another.

It would have been a sin to not take a step back and grab a few portraits in there.

I think that’s what I love most about wedding photography. It’s storytelling as life happens around and to people, and not much can be faked.

This ended up being one of the sweetest moments of the day.

As they day went on, of course it was a blast! The ceremony was great, the wedding reception was lit, and every staff member was on point.

When it came time for the exit, we were able to see one of the coolest things while getting semi-jealous at the same time.

As they were leaving, Hope’s parents gave them a new car which they were able to use as their exit vehicle!

Now I have beef with my parents. “Dad, why couldn’t you give me a Zoey a car on our wedding!” (;
