Sorry for the cause of melting ice in Alaska, because this Alaska destination wedding at Knik Glacier is HOT.(Yeah, hotter than Texas in the middle of August).

Ok – to be fair, this isn’t a real wedding – but the couple is and their chemistry is like Wildfire in a brilliant (though sometimes questionable) HBO series. This editorial wedding is thanks to our friends over at Traveling shoots with Taylor – who put this thing together.

About Knik Glacier

Knik Glacier is a 25-mile long, 5-mile wide glacier that comes from the Chugach Mountains. It is one of the more famous attractions near Anchorage, AL, but you won’t be getting there by driving. In fact, the only way to see Knik Glacier up close and personal is either by ATV (not ideal for weddings), boat or helicopter (definitely ideal for adventurous weddings).

If there is anything to know about Alaska, it’s that it is filled with mountain views in almost any direction. Anyone who is considering having an Alaska elopement at Knik glacier will know that they’re going to be getting married with beautiful mountain range views.

It’s important to remember that as with any national park and preserve, if you are getting married in Knik Glacier, you will need certain special use permits along with your marriage license in order to do this.

Some things to consider for anyone wanting to elope on Knik Glacier is the unpredictability of weather and wind when getting married on a giant ice block. The time of year you decide to have your elopement here really plays a big role in some of these factors.

So, some things to consider are backup plans, such as an additional location or being flexible with your date.

Putting This Together

This editorial session was something that Nathan and I would never in a million years pass up on, so when Taylor told us about this session, I’m pretty sure we packed our bags faster than the weather changes in Texas in the middle of October.

Our models were some of the coolest people you could meet. John is a pilot and Nicole is Yuptik, which is an Indigenous people of Alaska. When in Rome, right?

As I mentioned earlier, one of the only ways to get to Knik Glacier is via helicopter. So, naturally, we had the opportunity to ride over with Alaska Helicopter Tours to get us to our location. When I say it was a thrill to ride a helicopter to the elopement, I’m selling it short.

It was amazing. 

In collaboration with Taylor and her vision for this Alaska helicopter elopement editorial, we reached out to A and Be Seattle. They supplied us with an amazing dress which we felt paid homage to Nicole’s Indigenous ancestry.
