Having a summer wedding has its advantages especially when it comes to scheduling and making sure out of town family is going to be able to travel to attend your celebration. However, it also presents its own set of unique challenges especially here in the Dallas- Fort Worth area where temperatures in the summer months are often well into the triple digits. Check out these five tips we came up with to help make sure your Texas Summer wedding is as “cool” as it can be.

1. Consider having your wedding indoors

It may seem a bit obvious but one of the best ways that you can shield you and your guests from the heat is to have your wedding indoors. When searching for your perfect wedding venue look for some that offer indoor ceremony and reception areas so that you get to stay in the cool AC rather than sweating it out in the sun. Long gone are the the days where indoor ceremonies meant that you’d have to get married in a dark cave like church or hall. Here are a few of our favorite venues with areas that let you stay cool while having the gorgeous wedding you’ve always wanted.

  1. Knotting Hill Place
  2. Hillside Estate
  3. Arrowhead Hill
  4. Deep in the Heart Farms

2. Choose a lighter color palette

When choosing colors for your wedding consider having a lighter color palette to keep your bridal party from getting overheated during the parts of the day that are outside. Skip out on the dark bridesmaid’s dresses and opt for lighter pastels, not only will it keep your friends cool but pastels also photograph beautifully. When choosing the groom’s tux take a look at either a pastel colored, light tan, or white jacket for a refined look that won’t soak in that Texas sun like the traditional black.

3. Keep your guests hydrated

If part of your day is outside a hydration station (or several) is a luxury your guests and bridal party will thank you for. We have been to enough outdoor weddings in the summer months to know this Texas heat is no joke. Having water on hand when needed is so important and will make the day run so much smoother. You can even order some of these custom water bottle labels for a personalized touch.

4. Have a later ceremony start time

If you do choose to have an outdoor ceremony look at setting your ceremony start time later in the evening. Rather than having to stand in the midday heat, pushing your ceremony start time back will allow for the sun to set a little and hopefully bring an afternoon breeze that will take the edge off of the heat. This also allows for better lighting which will make your wedding images look even better and give them that gorgeous golden glow.

5. Pick the perfect dress

Choosing your wedding dress is one of the best and most exciting parts of the wedding process. Picking a wedding dress that fits your style and your wedding helps tie the event together just as much as the color palette or flower and décor choices. When trying on your dress think about what it will be like in the weather and environment that your wedding will be in and make sure that it is not going to cause you to overheat while you are outside by choosing one with a light fabric.

I hope these tips were helpful and make your Texas Summer wedding awesome. If you have any others please feel free to share them with us, we would love to hear from you. If you would like more tips for planning your dream wedding wedding please check out our wedding guide.
